Vintage Hamilton “Wilshire”

This particular example is running good and keeping time. It is the 14k natural gold filled example with roman numeral dial. It has been fitted to a new old stock domestic alligator green leather band. This vintage timepiece is ready for it’s new owner to enjoy. The watch was original engraved on the backing G.T. Sutphin 4-2-42. Gilbert T. Sutphin was born on 7 March 1875, in Virginia, United States, his father, Benjamin Elliott Sutphin, was 21 and his mother, Obediance Frances Prather, was 27. He married Martha Ellen Spence on 26 August 1896. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Laurel Fork, Carroll, Virginia, United States for about 50 years and Laurel Fork District, Carroll, Virginia, United States in 1940. He died on 23 September 1948, in Carroll, Virginia, United States, at the age of 73, and was buried in Spence Cemetery, Carroll, Virginia, United States.

 

In 1939 Hamilton introduced the Wilshire. This watch showcased flexible hinged lugs designed to contour and fit around the wrist for comfort. Featuring the 14/0 sized 19 jewel 982 movement, the Wilshire came in several different varieties. The Wilshire was made for three years.

Initially it came in a 14K gold filled case with either an applied gold numeral dial with solid 18K gold numerals or a gilt dial with roman numerals.
