Vintage 1960s Ollech & Wajs Caribbean 1000 Diver's Watch
One of OW’s most iconic models, the Caribbean is a record-breaking watch in its own right, as OW beat its rivals Omega and Rolex in the race to the deep-sea, making it certifiably water-resistant up to 100 ATM which amounts to to a depth of 3,300 feet. It has been adopted by the most prestigious and successful dive clubs and diving schools, like Global Marine, as well as free-divers and military navy divers. Prized among collectors, it is extremely rare with a quote-value constantly on the rise.
The Caribbean 1000 case features a crystal that itself is 5mm thick. The Caribbean 1000 trademark is its one-piece monoblock case, which means no screw-on back (fewer opportunities to leak), and a triple-sealed, double-thread, screw down crown. These features are what make the watch waterproof to 1000 meters, which was quite a feat for the time.
This particular watch is a really nice example. Original dial and hands in great condition. Crystal doesn't show any scratches. Screw-down crown working. Bezel rotated bi-directionally great. Bezel really nice with all numbers present. Backing appears polished, but the serial number can still be made out faintly. Watch is running good and keeping time. Fitted to a Phillips Watch period correct rice beads band with NOS correct end links.
